For All For All is a simple but powerful phrase. Without it, Mission Y is incomplete. Our commitment to inclusion creates better communities, a better country and a better world. In the United States, during the American Civil War, the number of Y members decreased to one-third of its size as members marched into battle. Fifteen of the remaining Northern Y formed the U.S. Christian Commission to support troops and prisoners of war. He was supported by President Abraham Lincoln, and among his 4,859 volunteers was the American poet Walt Whitman. Among other achievements, there were more than 1 million Bibles to fight men. We`re committed: Women`s beginnings at the YMCA are not well documented, although it is believed that the first female YMCA member in Brooklyn, NY, joined the team in the late 1850s. This is based on an 1869 statement by an observer that Brooklyn had half of its existence with women as members. The Brooklyn YMCA was founded in 1853. In the 1860s, at least unofficially, there were several female members. The Albany Convention of 1866 went so far that it refused to elect several delegates because representation in Congress had to be based on male affiliation. Ellen Brown, who was not only the first ymca employee, but also the movement`s first labor secretary for boys, was hired in 1886. In 1946, women accounted for 12% of the membership. When George Williams founded the first YMCA in Industrial Revolution London, he was trying to create a community of support to help young men like him address pressing social challenges. Seven years later, the idea found a home in the United States at Boston`s Old South Church. Over the past 170 years, the Y`s mission has grown exponentially, and today the Y employs more than 10,000 neighborhoods in the United States. The canteens and postal exchanges operated by the YMCA in France were exempt from America`s minimum price laws, their history and reputation being sufficient safeguards against abuse. The YMCA`s main goal is to mentor and train people who benefit from its programs into responsible and progressive people. The organization has launched many programs, all localized and adapted to the needs of young people and adapted to their environment.
